Our vision for PE is to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in sport and other physically demanding activities. We aim to develop a balanced program offering a variety of activities to enhance skills in physical education and provide opportunities for children to become physically confident. Positive participation in PE will enable children to build self-esteem, team work and a fairness and respect for sport. We believe children should also get the chance to take part in competitive sport.
By the end of EYFS children should show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements. They should be able to move confidently in a range of ways safely negotiating space.
By the end of KS1 children should have mastered basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination and begin to apply these in a range of activities. They should participate in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending. Children should also be able to perform dances using simple movement patterns.
By the end of KS2 children should be able to use running, jumping, throwing and catching in isolation and in combination. They should play competitive games and apply basic principles suitable for attacking and defending. Children should develop flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance and should perform dances using a range of movement patterns. We aim for children to be able to swim 25m by the time they leave Kinnerley Primary.
Our in-school provision is enhanced by the use of expert services such as Shrewsbury Town in the Community (STITC) coaching, the Shropshire cricket board and specialist coaches, including for gymnastic and dance.
After school clubs
We are pleased to be able to offer year-round after school clubs using a variety of specialist sport coaches.
We are also very proud of our record in taking part in inter-school competitions within our school cluster group and at area and regional level.
